Reflecting on 2023: A Journey from Uncertainty to Leadership Excellence

As the curtain falls on 2023, I find myself pausing to reflect on a year that was both challenging and rewarding. At the start of the year, I was navigating the uncertain waters of unemployment, a phase that turned out to be a disguised blessing. It allowed me to recalibrate my life, visit family, and get clear about what I truly wanted for my future. Despite considering a longer break, I realized that my passion for a career was undeniable.

Working under a narcissistic leader previously had taken its toll. Constant criticism and attacks on my work ethic were the norm, irrespective of how I engaged. I am inherently a positive person, with a burning passion for leadership and a solid work ethic. Recognizing that the toxic environment was hindering rather than helping and after lots of prayer, I decided it was time to part ways.

As I ventured into the job market, a fortuitous offer from a Fortune 10 company came my way. Yet, God had other plans. An interview with my current company, led by a CRO who personified leadership, changed everything. I immediately knew this was where I was meant to be. As the new VP of Marketing, I took charge of an incredible team of four. In just six months, we pulled off miracles, executing two national campaigns, successfully running our first major trade show, and smashing our revenue goals. We didn’t just meet expectations; we soared beyond them, innovating ways to track ROI and earning an industry marketing award nomination.

We launched a comprehensive sales playbook, established a sales enablement function, and developed a robust onboarding program for new hires. Amidst all this, I managed to balance work with personal life, taking vacations with my husband and traveling extensively for work.

As I stand at the threshold of a new year, I am filled with gratitude and a profound sense of purpose. It’s clear now that following God’s will, rather than my own, is what truly forges diamonds out of life’s pressures. This journey wasn’t just about finding my place; it was about aligning with a higher path meant for me. The challenges, the growth, the victories — they were all part of a divine design, leading me to where I am meant to be. Here’s to a future of continued faith, leadership, and creating more diamonds in 2024!
